Siting principles for railway in karst area
Abstract
Karst damages to railway structure are manifold. How to minimize even to avoid damages like these by reasonable siting of railway is a strategic problem while those concrete treatments for remediating a particular carvern encountered in construction is a tactical one. Based upon practical experiences in railway engineering for more than thirty years, the author summarized them into siting principles for railway, in both plan and profile, in karst area of eight different geomorphic units and other particular karstic conditions.
