Geotechnical conditions of the Iraklion city, Crete

In a detailed engineering geological study of the Iraklion city, Crete (Greece), the geological formations were grouped in distinct geotechnical units according to the results of the geotechnical mapping and the in situ and laboratory testing. Furthermore, the problems related to the mechanical behaviour of these units were studied and suggestions were made regarding the foundation conditions and the stability of excavated slopes RESUME: L’étude détaillée de géologie de l’ingénieur effectuée dans la ville d’Iraklion, Crète (Grèce) nous a aidé classifier les formations géologiques en unites distinguées, d’après les resultats de la cartographie géotechnique et des essais en place et au laboratoire. En plus, nous avons étudié les problèmes relatifs au comportment mécanique de ces unités et nous avons fait des propositions sur les conditions de fondation et de stabilité des pentes excavées.
