Abstract

For the design of tunnels below up to 1500 m of cover a project specific system of geotechnical categories was derived from field surveys. Rock mass strength indices corresponding to these categories were evaluated in parametric studies of ground reaction reflecting the possible range of variation in the geological input. Routing and designing the tunnels under consideration of geotechnical categories and local ground reaction assures suitable adjustment to geological conditions.
