The non-destructive investigation of a pavement residual strength in a tropical savannah environment of Nigeria
Abstract
The non-destructive in-situ investigation of the residual strength of a 126-6 km non-flexible pavement in a developing tropical Savannah environment is discussed. The problems associated with this technique of Investigation in this environment are highlighted. It is found that (i) the geology, and (ii) pavement course material type, affect the measured pavement residual strength and (iii) a properly articulated mobilisation process is essential for a successful testing programme in this environment.
