In-situ and model tests of high-capacity anchors
Abstract
The principle of a new type of marine anchor is presented to be used for high pulling loads as needed by off-shore oil engineering, a brief discussion of the geotech-nical principles involved being first given. The study was first carried out on scale models in order to facilitate the optimisation of the anchor’s geometry. As expected, the evolution of tests on bigger and bigger prototypes showed a good similarity for clays and somewhat less for sands, so that it seemed necessary, in that case, to use different size anchors with increasing pulling capacity.
