Abstract

The stress dependant behaviour of a material can have a great influence on pavement design.(1) The deflections, and therefore stresses imposed on a sample of material during California bearing ratio (CBR) testing are very much greater than the deflections and stresses the material is subjected to under a concrete pavement. The use of correlations between for instance CBR and resilient modulus (E) can be dangerous under these circumstances.
