Modes of ice-pull action in foundation and its prevention under ice covering
Abstract
Structural piers and pile foundations in rivers, lakes, swamps etc, covered witn ice had been destoried due to ice-pull. In another case, though the thickness of the ice cover was similar 1 and tne structural size the same, the foundation was all rifcht. The authors analyzed the acting forces and other boundary conditions of the ice cover, determined various modes of the ice-pull, and gave an available prevention method for engineering design. Therefore, it would be useful for the design of the piers and pile foundations more economically and reasonably.
