Laboratory performance tests of cryogenic earth pressure cells
Abstract
Two types of earth pressure cells (load cell type and closed fluid system type) for measuring earth pressure on the wall of an underground LNG storage tank were made and tested. The loading tests of them embedded in concrete are carried out with frozen soil as the medium. The closed fluid system type shows comparatively good qualities and can be used as a wall earth pressure cell by considering temperature-drift of output.
