The Biogeography of the pulmonate family arionidae (mollusca)
Abstract
Two recently discovered primitive species of the family Arionidae suggest that this family, contrary to current views, may have originated in Gondwanaland. The present Arionid distribution in the fynbos region of South Africa supports the view that this region has become progressively drier since the Cretaceous and that the characteristic mediterranean-type climate evolved as recently as the Pleistocene.
