Abstract

Operations Research was mainly developed during World War II at the allied side by civilian scientists. At the demobilization, OR rapidly found its way to peace time business and is now a generally spread set of quantitative management tools. OR also found its way to the mining industry, where the growth of its applications has been somewhat slower than in most other industries because of obvious problems of quantifications in the mining industry. OR constitutes now an important part of evaluation and management tools in larger mines with inroads being made into smaller mines.
