Abstract

The Selbaie operation use a Bailey controls Network 90 distributed process control system. Modules, containing powerful micro-computers, communicate with each other over an Ethernet bus. Various areas of the mill are linked to one another and to operator interface units via a high-speed communication loop. Thus, any module can receive or send data to any other module in the same cabinet or across the entire mill. Likewise the operator can control any loop of the process from a local or remotely located console. Also installed at Selbaie is the Network 90 Data Management System (LAN-90 DMS). It provides an interface to ‘live’ process data from the Network 90 Distributed Process Control System and the PC-90 Programmable Controllers. LAN-90 is highly user configurable and user friendly. These features allow current process data to be incroporated in management reports which in turn reflect the most up-to-date operation of the mill and process.
