Dealing with outlier high grade data in precious metals deposits
Abstract
In precious metals deposits, a minute percentage of outlier data may contribute a disproportionate amount of the ounces recovered. Such outlier data usually correspond to specific high grade mineralizations which should be mapped, either deterministically or probabilistically, prior to their average grade estimation. The indicator kriging (IK) algorithm is shown to be such a two-step estimation procedure. Application to local grade estimation at the Sunbeam gold property is presented. KEYWORDS: outlier data, reserves estimation, indicator kriging, epithermal gold deposit
