Abstract

Technological change has resulted in an evolution of the Mines Engineering Office. Slide rules and hand drawn plans have been replaced by computer workstations and Computer Aided Drafting and Design. The initial CADD system, originally purchased for Creighton Mine, has been expanded to include three separate mines within the Sudbury basin. As well the original software package is continually being upgraded. CADD has contributed to some meaningful productivity gains. Repetitive drafting tasks have been reduced. More drawings are constantly being added to the CADD database. This augmented database provides for an increased number of drawings that can be rapidly revised to produce a new drawing.
