Multiple regression analysis vs expert system for the study of the relationship between mine productivity and other significant variables such as bonus
Abstract
The paper describes briefly the steps taken to analyze the relationship between underground mine productivity and other significant variables such as bonus. Two different approaches are tested with the data collected for eight room and pillar stopes over a two year period. The first one uses multiple regression analysis whereas the second one, after recognizing patterns, extracts a set of rules (knowledge) from the data which are then used by an expert system shell. The computer results are presented along with a brief discussion about the relative merits of each technique.
