Abstract

This paper describes the recent implementation, through the use of the microcomputer, of a new approach to open-pit planning and scheduling. This approach, although not a true mathematical optimization, attempts to approximate the complex optimizations while producing more practical results with much less effort. The approach is easily understood by mining engineers with little or no training in operations research and the menu-driven multi-window screen requires litle program documentation. A companion program for ultimate pit limit analysis runs on the same data bases.
