Abstract

A number of computer programs are now available which can be used to assist in the design of ventilation and air conditioning systems for underground mines experiencing hot working conditions. This paper will provide an overview of these programs discussing their differences and similarities, ease of use, limitations, and accuracy. A number of different case studies using measured data from operating hot underground mines, will illustrate input requirements, operation, and output for these programs. In conclusion, the paper will indicate the procedures a mine ventilation engineer should take to use one of these programs to assist effectively in the design of the ventilation system for a new or operating mine.
