Abstract

A general solution of the heat conduction in the infinite rock mantle is provided to allow air temperature change with time using the superposition technique, and the non-dimensional age function. Completely dry and wet surfaces are assumed, and the development of a computation algorithm is described to predict sensible and latent heat transfer in an airway developed in a homogenous infinite solid. The model can be used with arbitrary temperature and moisture variation of the inlet air with time, while the variations can continuously adjust for changes with distance. Therefore the computation algorithm correctly handles the prehistory of the heat and moisture transfer, and can be used when seasonal or periodic variations, or a rapid continuous temperature increase, e.g. during mine fire simulation, occur.
