Abstract

The Australian mining industry is highly export-oriented, with international competitiveness being the key element in the survival and profitability of many mining operations. The cost of performing equipment maintenance is a significant component in the total operating costs of capital-intensive mining operations. Because of the dependence of equipment maintenance on other functional areas of the minesite, an integrated approach to the control of maintenance costs is necessary.
