Stability of self actuating safety valves in liquid service
Abstract
PWR auxiliary systems and pressurizer mechanical safety valves operating experience shows that liquid discharge often involves high flutter or chatter of the disc inducing valve damages and high amplitude pressure sollicitations. As the failure of a safety valve often leads, on a nuclear plant, to the release of radioactive fluid and to costly repairs, a systematic study has been undertaken by the Commissariat à 1’Energie Atomique (C.E.A) and FRAMATOME to understand and find a solution to this problem.
