Abstract

Stress corrosion cracking of austenitic stainless steels has been studied extensively in recent years, as a result of the widespread incidence of intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC) at welds in BWR piping systems. Fatigue crack growth in these same materials and environments has received less research emphasis because cyclic loading is not considered a fundamental cause or contributor to the IGSCC problem.
