Abstract

The stability, integrity, and operability of piping systems must be ensured for operational loading conditions and safety-related postulated loading conditions. This may be achieved with the help of design-by-analysis methods. However, such an approach is impractical for most piping, such as small-bore piping of up to DN 50 and cold systems (see Fig. 1 ). Accordingly, KWU developed a simplified and reliable method for designing such piping systems which basically avoids the use of computer analyses (see Fig.2 ) while making sure that the span lengths are short enough in order to resist seismic loads and flexible enough for operational loads.
