Improvement of valve lift characteristic of a main steam isolation valve to reduce pipe loading
Abstract
Safe design of piping systems in nuclear power plants requires the demonstration that the piping will withstand all possible static and dynamic loads during normal operation or accidents. Among the forces causing such loads are the fluiddynamic forces due to operational or accidental transients. They result from rapid changes of the flow conditions in the piping system. Especially fast valve opening or closing can create large pressure changes leading to significant shock loadings. Not only should these loads be kept below the specified values, aspects of carefuel treatment of plant during longterm operation demand loads as low as possible too.
