Stress analysis in piping connection thermal sleeves - Some design criteria
Abstract
The protection of nozzles and connections against sudden changes in fluid temperature is normally performed by means of thermal sleeves. Through these elements, the component area subjected to higher mechanical stresses (structural discontinuity) is thermally shielded, which reduces the thermal stresses. So consequently, the thermal sleeve itself and its union to the component are the areas most affected by thermal shock.
