Abstract

The Tail safe performance of the nuclear reactor pressure vessels (RPV) depends on. the fracture toughness of the materials used. The RPV steels are required to satisfy the minimum fracture toughness as set forth in ASME boiler and pressure vessel code sect III appendix G. This minimum fracture toughness value was determined based on the lower bound of crack arrest and dynamic fracture toughness data which is the lowest fracture toughness used for the assessment of integrity and safety of the steels.
