Abstract

In an accident or even under normal operating conditions parts of the pressure vessel and the piping system of a light water reactor may be exposed to thermal loading. Therefore, several research institutes deal with the problem of crack propagation under such loading conditions. In this report recent investigations of thermal fatigue are presented. The investigation programme consists of the following three parts: a thermal fatigue experiment and fractographic studies, experiments to characterize the material, and the fracture mechanics analysis.

Fields of Study & Subjects

Fatigue and fracture mechanics High Temperature Alloys and Creep Hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion behaviors in metals
