Abstract

In order to make an assessment of the integrity of nuclear power plant components, which are subjected to irradiation embrittlement, against failure, continuous monitoring of the fracture toughness of the material is required. The instrumented Charpy test is considered to be one of the most expedient tools with which to measure either dynamic fracture toughness or the conservative value of static fracture toughness. However, the specific test procedure to be used has not yet been established and there still remain problems to be corrected.
