Abstract

In the seismic analysis of the piping system on the rack structure, the interaction effect and local nonlinearities at the support can not be ignored. The interaction effect between a piping and a rack structure must be evaluated under the condition that a rack structure is not heavy and stiff enough compared with a piping system. The piping system may slide within a gap and cause an impact with a support during a seismic event. The vibration energy may be dissipated concurrently by friction within a gap. So, the interaction effect and these nonlinearities strongly affect the seismic response of both the piping system and the rack structure.
