Abstract

Current seismic design requirements continue to be an issue of increasing concern for nuclear plant utility owners. Regardless of the period in which the engineering was performed and the plant constructed, there are design features that benefit from assessing seismic safety margins viz-a-viz current seismic guidelines. This paper summarizes the important changes in techniques of seismic analysis and discusses their implications both from design and regulatory points of view. General guidelines for reassessment of seismic safety margins are proposed.
