Abstract

The ultimate uplift resistance of a cohesive soil, in case of multiunderreamed deep anchor, is estimated for undrained loading conditions, by finite element method, on the basis of its tensile strength and anchor displacements. Multiunderreaming is effected by providing one similar additional anchor base in one case and two additional similar bases in another case. The computations show that multiunderreaming increases the ultimate uplift resistance as compared to the anchor with single base. Further, the computations show that multiunderreaming with increased number of bases may not be more advantageous.
