Ground movements by tunnel driving in the protection of frozen shells
Abstract
Using the artificial freezing method in tunnel driving, a reciprocal interaction exists between the subsoil and the frost shell, and it is presented from the initial heading state onwards. The settlements of the fround surface are described using results from numerical parametric studies. Consequently, settlements are a function of the freezing temperature, the tunnel and the frost shell dimensions, and the surface load. Comparisons with measured displacements, obtained by model tests are presented.
