The nonlinear behaviour of ground anchors and its consideration in finite element analysis of tied-back walls
Abstract
Over 60 in situ anchor tests are analysed by fitting the load-displacement curves by a hyperbolic model similar to the one used for soils. This allows for an easy quantification of the discrepancies between experimental diagrams and the elastic extension of the free anchor lengths. Finite element analyses of an excavation supported by a tied-back wall are performed, employing the above mentioned model for the anchors. It is concluded that reasonable estimates of anchor loads can only be achieved if anchor behaviour is accurately modelled.
