Abstract

This paper details the performance of anchored sheet pile wall supported by four rows of anchors, used for large-scale excavation https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> ( 100 m wide https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> × 200 m long https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> × 10.4 m deep) in soft clay in Osaka. The behaviour of the structure and the adjacent ground was observed carefully throughout the excavation work. Numerical analysis was carried out for different excavation stages, using the finite element method. Measured and computed behaviours are compared and discussed. As well, the mechanism of anchor load redistribution following anchor rupture was investigated for the same wall.
