Abstract

Liquefaction potential of silty sand below sea bed has been evaluated for seismic as well as wave induced forces. Simplified approach based on empirical method and detailed analysis based on finite element analysis and using cyclic triaxial data have been used for assessing liquefaction potential of the silty sand layer. It is seen that simplified approach for seismic forces indicated the possibility of liquefaction for ground acceleration in excess of 0.13 g.Analysis by finite element method and data generated by Cyclic triaxial tests, however indicated liquefaction for ground acceleration of 0.24 g. Liquefaction was not indicated for wave heights upto 7 m, both by simplified and detailed analysis.
