Internal stability of minestone
Abstract
Minestone is a waste material which is often used in slope protections along banks and dikes. Because of its wide grain size distribution, the small grains can easily be washed out, through the skeleton of the large grains. The present paper describes the investigation of this phenomenon, which is a threat to the stability of the structure. The criteria for geometrical internal stability, derived by (Kenney), are verified with experimental data. The latter also has lead to a hydraulic design criterion, which is less stringent than a geometrical criterion.
