Abstract

Soil-structure interaction is examined from the point of view of piles under axial loading : Three main ideas are developped here after : First, theory and use of cyclic pseudocreep in order to predict the behaviour of tension piles embedded in fine soils and supporting a large number of cycles (like offshore piles). Secondly, the necessity of taking into account the soil-structure interface behaviour is pointed out in case of piles embedded in coarse granular materials. Finally, scale effects due to this aspect of soil behaviour are surveyed ; as a result, the centrifuge experiments have to be considered very cautiously.
