Simulation of internal water movement in breakwaters
Abstract
The wave-induced internal water movement in a breakwater may influence it's functioning and stability. The hydraulic properties of the core material have important effect on the internal water movement. The internal water movement can be simulated by the computer program Hadeer. Discontinuities in the phreatic surface and internal set-up are discussed. The results of several calculations are presented and compared with measurements. The application of the program to the stability of armour layers and the stability of backfill are discussed to illustrate the importance of the internal water movement and internal set-up.
