Abstract

With the help of an axi-symmeetical, one-dimensional model of the Stefan problem, systematic calculations show that during an important first period of the thermal Drocess, the thickness of the frozen layer around an underground cavity is proportional to the square root of the freezing index in the cavity. Several interesting remarks obtained from the numerical values can be of use in practical applications.
