Acoustic measurements on soaked soils during thaw and unfrozen water content determination
Abstract
Ultrasonic longitudinal wave velocities have been measured in kaolinite samples from −20°C to ambient temperature. Results are examined in the light of a model based on the comppressbiiities of the three constituents of the porous medium. This leads to an evaluation of the unfrozen water content and the mean thickness of the unfrozen water film around the grains.
