Abstract

Finite element analyses of the behaviour of frozen ground require a constitutive equation which describes the time dependent deformation of a stressed soil element. This poster describes a recently developed ‘high pressure computer controlled (HPCC) cell and presents results of both short term strength and creep behaviour under triaxial conditions with σ3 ⩽ 6 MPa, all at −10°C. A single equation is proposed to model creep under at all confining pressures including zero.
