Abstract

Present authors conducted the field and laboratory experiments on the adfreeze strengths of piles in frozen soils during soil freezing. The tested steel pipes were treated to reduce the uplift forces acting on them. Surfaces of steel pipes were coated with plastic films made of low adhesive material. According to the results of field experiment, the uplift forces acting on the plastic coated pipes reduced to the level of less than 10% of the non-treated ones.
