Frozen soil deformation and failure under different loading
Abstract
Results from frozen Chegan clay uniaxial compression tests under different loading regimes are reported. These include constant and stepwise increasing stresses, constant stress rates and creep-relaxation tests. Based on the analysis of experimental data the acceptability of the strain-hardening theory of creep for the description of the frozen soil deformation is shown. According to this theory new constitutive equations are proposed, containing both deformation and strengthening parameters to describe all three stages of frozen soil creep under an arbitrary loading regime.
