An expert system for classification of rock masses
Abstract
Rock classification for engineering purpose is one of essential problems in rock engineering. Several classifications available can be used, but seme of their parameters are hard to evaluate. For instance, favorable or unfavorable orientation of joints, one of those parameters, is not precise in meaning but vague, perhaps the assessment requires advice from an engineer familiar with the rock formation, that means, expertise is needed for assessment of seme parameters. In this paper we developed an expert system for classification of rock masses as a first trial to apply the expert system to rock mechanics.
