On the concept of rock mass plasticity
Abstract
An approach to the development of a plasticity theory for well-jointed rock masses is outlined. Major conceptual difficulties are discussed. An important result is the derivation of an elasticplastic stress strain law that relates increments of overall average stress to strain. Calculations of local average stresses of central importance to implementation of theory are in close agreement with numerical experiments in three dimensions.
