Abstract

This paper describes a microcomputer program which models the process of multiple radial fracturing. The code models borehole pressurization, fracture propagation, fracture curvature, gas leakage, mixed laminar-turbulent gas flow, thermal quenching, and fracture arrest. Measurable material and natural properties such as moduli, gas permeability, in-situ stress and explosive characteristics are used. Code results are compared with laboratory and field experimental data. Results indicate that fractures curve less than previously thought, and that the conditions for long fracture propagation are difficult to maintain.
