The mechanism of array geometry in the control of AE/MS source location accuracy
Abstract
Transducer array geometry may be one of the most important factors affecting acoustic emission/microseismic (AE/MS) source location accuracy. This paper presents a fundamental consideration of the role of array geometry. It addresses the essence of array geometry relative to source location accuracy as well as two basic array effects, geometrical spreading and direction control. The study is based on the analysis of the hyperbolic field, which allows the role of array geometry to be interpreted without having to introduce any arbitrary assumptions.
