Abstract

The North Sea Drift Formation is currently under investigation in the Happisburgh area of north east Norfolk. The nature, geometry and interrelationships of the major sedimentary units exposed in the coastal cliffs have been determined by lithofacies mapping, textural and structural properties of the exposed sediments have also been investigated. The sequences studied show laterally continuous diamicton facies interbedded with clays, silts and sands. Various deformation structures are found throughout the sequence. This paper discusses the environment and processes of deposition of the diamictons, sands and fines together with the origin of the deformation structures.
