Observations on glaciodynam ic structures at the M ain Stationary Line in western Jutland, Denmark
Abstract
The Bovbjerg profile is the most impressive cross section through the Weichselian Main Stationary Line. The following division of the structural stockverk is observed: Holsteinian marine clay probably forms the basis of the dark Saalian till. Above the Saalian till a sandur deposit grades into a grey sandy deposit with lignite. In the dislocated section of the Bovbjerg profile the lower Stockwerk includes also the lowermost Weichselian tillbed. The deformation related to this lower Stockwerk consists of thrust fault imbrications dipping to the north. In the Upper structural Stockwerk 2 tillbeds are found but outside to the south of the dislocated section the Weichselian ice advance can be separated into three minor tillbeds representing one kinetostratigrafical unit. Geological mapping of areas in eastern and central parts of Jutland supports the evidence of a continuous upper kinetostratigraphical unit related to the Late Middle Weichselian iceadvance.
