Abstract

During the last 45 years a statistical record of geodynamic phenomena occurring annually in Peru has been kept. This information was probably the object of careful record by ancient civilizations flourishing in this Andean country many thousand years ago. The geological, geomorphological and hydrological conditions of this region act together giving rise to the hazard of actual and potential landslides. Additionally, the characteristics of the most important landslide of the country are reviewed. Remedial work on the latter has required an investment of over 40 million US dollars.
