Kinetics of alkali feldspar dissolution at low temperature
Abstract
The dissolution kinetics of alkali feldspars was experimentally studied with flow-through reactors in a pH-range from 1 to 12.6. For the approach to steady-state dissolution about 1000 hours were required in many runs. Preferential release of Al in acid and Si in alkaline solutions was encountered. Calculated alteration layers are a few  on microcline and several hundred  on sanidine. The rate is proportional to a H ° 52 in the acidic regime and to a 01+5 in alkaline solutions of constant ionic strength.
