Abstract

The compression bandage is used in musculoskeletal injuries to reduce swelling and provide support. Traditional compression bandages don’t have the ability to adjust pressure in response to changing conditions. This paper presents the design and development of an adaptive compression bandage for musculoskeletal injuries such as sprain, knee osteoarthritis etc., which automatically adjusts the compression level based on oxygen saturation and the heart rate. The proposed system uses a micro-controller to process sensor data and actuate the bandage. The observations from the fundamental test demonstrated that the adaptive bandage can maintain optimal compression levels, potentially improving patient outcomes by enhancing comfort. This innovative approach shows a significant improvement over static methods, offering personalized care throughout the healing process. Novelty of this research paper is that compression of bandage is controlled by the oxygen level and the heart rate of a patient.
